I have just started my research into the KEEBLE name. The family I have so far is from Liverpool but I suspect they originate from South England. One of the James Keeble's jumped ship in Australia, married and the family name lives on in Tasmania. Would dearly like to hear from any of the KEEBLE family from down under. The first name on my tree is James KEEBLE born about 1839 died age 60 in 1899. James married Ellen Chisnell about 1859 in Liverpool. I have found the following children: James about born 1863 married Mary Catherine Thomas 1882 Isabella born 1865 died 1865 William James born about 1873 He married Jane McGhie in 1903. Jane born about 1878 she married Clarke or Edwards in 1901. If there is any person out there who is interested I would love to hear from you. Regards Brian

Hi, I have married into a Keeble family, not sure where they originated from, but the last couple of generations are from the South Australia/Victoria region. Email me if you like, there is a family member here that has done a bit of research cheers Sandie

Hi,
I typed Keeble into a computer in Edinburgh that traces family names. Apparently Keeble is Scandanavian.
Though my parents tell me it's an Irish name!?

Actually the Keeble/Keble name originates from Suffolk and is a Saxon name. The earliest reference I have found is 1089 in the Doomsday Book where an Aleuric Chebbel was a tenant of the Abbey of Bury St Edmunds which he shared with his sister on 10 acres and 2 Dinari (money).
I also have the Manorial family history for the Keeble/Keble family from 1320 to 1850 based at Stowmarket and parts of Suffolk.
The name derives from Saxon and is a derivation of the word for Cudgel or Cudgel maker.
There are many variations on the name based upon how the writer heard the name, so Keable, Cable, Keble, Keeble, Keele etc are all derivations.

There are quite a few KEEBLE entries for the census for 1851 for Norfolk. This is easily purchased on CD from the Mormon Church and it covers Norfolk, Devon and Warwickshire. Cost is about 4- 5 Pounds in Britain I think.
The entries range from Billingford to others living in Norfolk but born in Suffolk.
Here is just one entry for a KEEBLE family. This John was born in Suffolk. 77 entries on the CD for Keeble.

Hi Brian,
Don't know if you are still researching Keeble's in Australia, but my Grandparents emigrated to Aus early in the 1900's. I have a brief history on them but I don't believe they came from Liverpool.
The last Keeble I had contact with was from Cambridgeshire, a Mary Keeble, but she has since passed away.
Here in Victoria, at Clunes, there is a Keeble Inn (or something similar). Don't know if any Keebles are still associated with it. I saw it briefly, as we passed through the town.
I would be interested to know what you have found out about the Keeble's though.
Lyn Kimpton (nee Keeble)
