well, ive never live there my self but ive been through there a few times, and to be honest its got a bad reputation!!!

it may have sorted its self out since my last visit 3 yrs ago, but my advise would be go and see for your self, just take a day trip to thetford.

i would not move there if i was paid, and ive lived on some of the roughest travvellers sites in the u.k!!!

hopefully its changed, for your sake, but you could check things like the crime rate for that area, that could help you decide!

no point being poor and looking poor!!!!!!

This may provide a clue:  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/norfolk/6237668.stm

Having said that, it is dryer than Sheffield.

I never stole your flag, I just rescued it from the gutter where you left it.

For the truth go to www.bnp.org.uk
just a link, like Denise has.

having stumbled on this issue rather late this is just an attempt to put the good side forward!

I lived on the Abbey Farm for over 10 years and have nothing but praise for it.  There's a sense of community on some streets, there's shops and schools and there used to be a community centre used for playgroups and other functions but I don't know if it's still in use.  There's lots of green areas behind the houses safe for children to play;  it's possible to walk into town without crossing busy roads, I could go on and on!

Thetford has plenty of pubs and restaurants (there's a new hotel recently completed) and although the main supermarkets are slightly out of town there is still enough local shops to manage most needs.

My children all managed an excellent education while on Abbey Farm and I know of others that also went on to universities with good 'A' level results.   Overall the property prices are still low, the road links to other parts of the country are excellent, the forest is all around and in less than 5 minutes High Lodge is on the doorstep with it's brilliant annual concerts pulling people in from far and wide.

I still live in the town and can't imagine leaving.  It's time to stop moaning and look for the good.

I used to live in Thetford, and I remember what a terrible reputation it had. But it was just that - a reputation. I used to walk to work every night through the estate, and I had a girlfriend who lived there, so I knew the place quite well, and it wasn't at all tough. It was a bit grubby, with a few knackered old cars and lawns which could stand a decent mowing, but it wasn't a bad place. A lot of the reputation came from snootiness, because most of the farm's residents were working class Londoners, and I have a sneaking feeling that they were a little bit proud of their tough reputation. The local media weren't a lot of help either: when reporting some unresolved crime in the area, they would often end the story with a line about the perpetrators being "seen running off in the direction of Abbey Farm", even if they would have had to cross posher areas to get there.
I worked in a Thetford engineering company full of Geordies who were living in digs on Abbey Farm, and they laughed at the idea of it being a hard estate. For them it was a very model of southern salubriousness.
