Re: the reeve family

Can you be a bit more specific Mark, names or dates etc.

There are several families of Thatchers in the 1851 census for surrounding villages by the name of REEVE

and a tie in with one of those from Shelfanger in 1851 is noted in the 1881 census.

Thatchers noted in 1851 by the name of REEVE

Charles aged 49 with family in Lyng, born Lyng

Righteous aged 77 born Winfarthing, in Winfarthing

William aged 51 in Shelfanger, born Diss - some family members born in Shelfanger

Righteous, aged 49 born Diss & N. Lopham, in the Diss 1851 census.

-------------------------

1881 Census   Wiliam REEVE, born in Shelfanger, 1837 Thatcher & Reed Layer found  in the Wifarthing census

Also I noted a Pheve REEVE lodger, widow, aged 65 annuitant in the E.Harling census 1851 in Gallants Lane, and she was born in North Lopham.  I think perhaps she may tie in with a family in Diss.

Re: the reeve family

As you probably know the parish registers for Diss (church of England) have been printed in a book by the Norfolk Family History Society for the period 1551 - 1837.  And you obviously have these entries.

The only other note I have is

1851 Census for East Harling.

Richard RAVES Head, widr, aged 40 on parish relief born E. Harling

James his son aged 8, Mary daughter 1 mth, Dinah Crack or Crach aged 20, Nurse, and Elizabeth TAILER widow, aged 71 Charwoman.  All born E. Harling.

However, I think there is a chance that the enumerator wrote RAVES for REEVES.  A possibility I guess.

Re: the reeve family

Hi,   I am Peter Reeve, great grandson of Peter Reeve, who was a master thatcher and lived in Bridgham, Norfolk.

His son and my uncles to hailed from Bridgham and East Harling thatched with their father from 1860 to 1968.

I have a book written by my Uncle Bert (a master thatcher) called "Memoirs of a Thatching Family - 1860-1968

published by the Larks Press, Ordnance Farm House, Guist Bottom, Dereham, Norfolk. NR20 5PF.  01328 829207.

The book I mention above is absolutely fascinating reading and covers the whole period of my thatching family with lots

of photographs and old dockets of work carried out.

I can be contacted at 092866 388627 or peterjreeve@btinternet.com should you required and help or further information.

Regards

Peter Reeve
