I have recently been made aware of your "Support Your Pub" campaign in Norfolk and think it only right that Suffolk should not be forgotten, in particular The Black Horse at Thorndon near Eye.
I retired here some 5 years ago at a time when the Black Horse was under threat. Indeed it closed for the majority of 2002.
Fortunately it did re-open under various managers/tenants and is now a great success.
The current owners, a young couple (Darren and Jenny Hayward) took it over some 20 months ago. Darren is an excellent chef previously having been at the Kings Head in Wroxham. They have built the trade up on the back of a successful menu incorporating both Suffolk and Norfolk produce. They also sell both Suffolk and Norfolk ales as well as the local Aspel cider on draught.
Besides making the pub a success they have found time to start a family and join in the village life - Darren even finds time to have the odd day off as well as practice his golf using the field behind the pub as a fairway!!!!!
Well worth trying out when in the area.
