The 1911 Census

Public pressure has now resulted in a change in the release of the 1911 census..

The National Archives has been sticking to a 100-year
closure ruling on old census records meaning that the
1911 Census will only see the light of day in 2012.

Effective next month you'll be able to request
information from 1911 Census records for a fee, and
they're going to start putting the 1911 Census online
three years early in 2009 (though not in its
entirety

Re: The 1911 Census

I think you will find that individual census records can only be viewed after 100 years have passed.  The govt evidently decided ( and I think this is due to the increase interest in genealogy) that they will release the data to the public earlier than that.

In other words a normal life span is reckoned to be under 100 years so they are not releasing information on the majority of  living persons  taken by a census taker.  Perhaps there was a law which determined the time before release.

Check with the PRO Ron, they will probably give you an answer.  If you do let us know.
