08/01/2007, 7:46 PM Dek Joined on 15/08/2003 Norwich Posts 1,027 Re: Support your pub The pubs that I enjoyed have all disappeared   (shows my age !)   I remember the Adam and Eve in Bishopgate as it was.  You would walk in down to the end of the room to a doorway witha shelf across.....this was the `bar` looking down the steps behind were all the casks on a rack with taps on. That was a real pub , and a lovely pint on a hot day .  No fancy gimmicks or carpets, just good solid wooden seats and a great atmosphere.   All part now of nostalgia .  Maybe pubs are more comfortable today , but I think we`ve lost something somewhere along the line.  I used to enjoy a walk with my late father in law from Lakenham on a Sunday to Stoke Rummer another lovely pub, where we would enjoy a pint and buy a pair of rabbits from one of the locals.    All gone now , hardly worth calling them pubs.    Unless you happen to live in Coronation St. or similar , and thats all `Soap.   Laugh, and the wife laughs with you. Snore and you`ll sleep alone.    Report

The best pub I have ever set foot in has to be the White Hart at Blythburgh!    Some friends took me there many years ago and I am glad it is still going! I was also impressed by the Alexandra Tavern in Norwich.    This pub has a really good friendly atmosphere, the beer is good and the prices are excellent! The Goat at Skeyton was the very first pub I was allowed to have a drink in on my 18th birthday!   My parents were strict about such matters and, as we lived in a remote area at the time, I depended on my parents to give me a lift anywhere!   They treated me to an evening at the Goat that day so I am glad it is still going! The Nelson Head at Horsey was a good pub to go to with friends when we went for meal many years ago.    I have also had good reports from the same friends concerning the Pigs at Edgefield but I haven't managed to go there yet! 15/02/2007, 10:30 PM Callum89 Joined on 15/02/2007 Posts 1 Re: Support your pub Having worked at a pub for a year, the pub owners are responsible for putting lot's of pubs out of business.  Their policy changes recently, from tenents to leaseholds, this had a huge effect on the Landlord when he decided to leave,  Because he had to hand it back in a particular state, he had to repair things that were like it when he arrived, 2 years previous, as the landlord before him was a tenent.  This was unfortunate for the landlord, and the report estimated that it would cost him 25 000 pounds to complete the work professionly, thankfully a couple of local tradesman carried out the work very cheaply and reduced the cost massivley.  this is hugely unfair surely    Report

Went to a quiet village pub for Sunday Lunch yesterday, Fantastic carvery,cooked to perfection,friendly service, very good price. Was with a couple who had travelled over 30 miles to dine with us, they were so impressed that they said that they would tell all their friends about the good meal and service, they got, and would patronise the pub again. But the landlord said that it may not be possible, because he might have to close soon. due to one person in the village who is spreading bad publicity about the place, so they are losing a lot of trade. This person is alleging that the pub is rowdy, the food unpalatble and the staff unfriendly. Recently when the landlord applied for his licence, this person objected to it stating that it was rowdy noisy and cars schreeching in and out of the car park and the banging of car doors. (The pub is situated in a cul de sac and road junction is about 50 yards from car park.)  Some of the regulars will not attend this pub due to the fact that this person is watching the pub and has cctv trained on it. It is also alleged that this person is also watching his neighbour with cctv and writing down the car numbers of people that visit her. and complaining about the noise she is making. (She teaches music at home) The poor woman had to erect a six foot wooden fence to ensue her privacy. None of her other neighbours have ever complained. I for one will be going to this pub more often. Live your Dream Ask me how?    Report
