Hi Matty
Firstly thank you very much for sending me info from above.
I wonder if I could trouble you to clarify some things please:
BROWNSELL
1828 Nov 23
Louisa Born Nov 13 ? The year is missing.
1820 Nov 14
Charles Robert. No date of birth on email received.
1833 Jan 20
John William. My email says father Richard - should that read as the others above - Robert and Hannah Brownsell?
CUTLER
1818 dEC 6
Sarah d of James and Hannah Cutler late Love. Year of birth missing.
Also is 'late LOVE' correct please as this is important. The rest of the entries listed state 'late Saul'.
I don't appear to have year of births for James, Mary and Charlotte please.
It was superb to receive this info as it takes my records to early 1800s or maybe even late 1700s
depending on age of parents on first child.
There are familes of the name LOVE and SAUL in the area so it is important.
Do you have any Runton Baptismals etc earlier than this (same families)?
Thank you very much once again.
Ros

Hi Ros,
The parish registers give only what the Vicar was inclined to ask or wanted to enter.
Many par. regs do not give the date of birth, different Vicars asked different questions, or did not bother to put the maiden names of the mother or the birth dates. They were primarily interested in the date of the baptism.
The transcript I did, I did over 25 or 30 yrs ago, and I do not have the original film at hand. A transcript is only what the transcriber sees, it is not guaranteed to be correct and the original registers should always be consulted in EVERY case.
If the births are only as given as month and day that is all that is given - a question mark beside a date indicates it was difficult to decipher. (e.g either an 8 or 3 with ref. to the 13th date. One can usually take it that a birth in Nov applies to a new born being baptised in December but by no means is this always the case.
I am afraid I cannot add anything to what I sent previouly for the entries.
But from the 1841 or 1851 census you could find some correlation I am sure.
e.g. 1841 Census returns for Runton. (This is a transcription sent to me years ago - you would need to check the original returns to be certain)
LOVE (There is no Yes or No to being born in the parish on this transcript, ) but it does appear on the original.)
Entry 33. no actual address given (which is normal in small villages)
Mary LOVE aged 70 Shopkeeper
Mary LOVE 10
Martha MOY 15 Servant.
Will WOODHOUSE 70 Ag. Lab
---------------------------
BROWNSELL
Entry 36
Hannah BROWNSELL 35 Beer Seller
Louise BROWNSELL 12
Charles BROWNSELL 10
John BROWNSELL 8
George BROWNSELL 3
----------------
Entry 37
Ann WELLS 65 widow
-----------------
Entry 55
James LOVE 50 Fisherman
Ann LOVE 50
James LOVE 20 Fisherman
John LOVE 20 Fisherman
Robert LOVE 15 Fisherman.
----------------------
Entry 59
George LOVE 45 Fisherman
Elizabeth LAWRENCE 25 Housekeeper
Samuel LAWRENCE 20 Fisherman
Maria LAWRENCE 15
-------------------
Entry 60
James CUTLER 45 Fisherman
Hannah CUTLER 55
Sarah CUTLER 20
James CUTLER 20 Fisherman
Mary CUTLER 15
Charlotte CUTLER 15
As you probably know the ages of the folks were rounded down to the lowest five years etc, in the 1841 census. So James CUTLER would be between 45 and 50 etc, as are all others (rounded down).
The 1851 census for Norfok can be purchased from your nearest LDS (mormon) history centre for very little money. There are several errors etc, but well worth the price. It is also searchable. Also the original registers have now been filmed by the mormons so the nearest centre would be able to get it in for you. The writing is horrendous in this register and the condition is poor but most is legible if you spend some time on it.
Here is the 1851 census for CUTLER that I found on the cd for Norfolk Census 1851 which applies to your family.
The ages are supposed to be correct and the birthplaces, although sometimes they don't appear to be correct with the registers. Folks just told the enumerator, so some might have purposely given the wrong one. This 1851 census cd is well worth the purchase.

Thanks Pat,
The first post just would not show it had been accepted at all.
and to Ros,
When I did the Runton transcript I did it from the first filming, which was extremely poor and so faded that you could not see half the writing.
However, just a few moments ago I heard from a friend that if you go to Norfolk baptisms Project. The Runton registers have been done from the second filming much much better, on microfiche, and all the information appears to be intact. The Runton baptisms for 1813 - 1880 are now on there beautifully done. Read the note on the top of the entries and you will understand.
Google:- norfolk baptisms project.
Regards
Matty

A lkittle more to help you Ros,
There is no marriage register extant for Runton, 1754 - 1812, at least it wasn't so twenty five years ago etc, and I don't think it has been discovered since, but check with the NRO.
Mr. Ray Balls of Cromer and myself reconstructed and typed out the possible marriages for that period from the banns, and the AT's and B'T's that were extant. Banns indicate a marriage but do not always end up with a marriage - folks change their minds etc.
Any entry within square brackets are those from banns alone, All others are taken from what is available from AT's and BT's.
WELLS for marriages from AT''s and BT's 1754 - 1812.
Entry 89. Gregory WELLS of Aylsham, married Ann ABRAHAM sp of this parish by banns. 17 Oct 1797. Wit: John AMAS, Thos. THOMPSON. ( no status of the groom given).
Entry 44. William WELLS married Mary BURTON by Lic. 4 April 1776. (nothing more in the entry).
CUTLER
William CUTLER [of Cromer] married Winnefred HARDINGHAM, [of this parish, bachelor & spinster] marr. 12 May 1754. (As you can see a little bit of info from the banns and the other is from At. and Bt.)
Samuel CUTLER [s.m. of this parish] married Elizth. EVERET [ of this parish, s. woman] by banns. 11 Feb 1766
[Nathaniel CRASK bach, married Rosamund CUTLER sp, both of this parish by banns ] [Jan 1773] Note banns entry only but I know that they did have children so they were married.
[Sherman CUTLER of Foulsham, single man married Sarah BREESE, single woman, of this parish, banns. ][July 1783] banns only.
Robert SADLER of this parish, single man, married Charlotte CUTLER, of this parish, single woman, by banns. 16 Sept 1811. Wits: Thomas REYNOLDS, Gregory WELLS.
The witness above, Gregory WELLS, was obviously the Parish Clerk, as he signed many marriages as a witness.
I will have to send the Dennis marriages later.
Cheers
Matty

Thanks for your email, Ros..
I have given the DENNIS possible marriages on this post as it may help others researching the surname.
All brackets indicate information from the banns registers. All other info from ATs and BTs.
Thomas DENNIS [of this parish, bachelor] married Mary EVERET [of this parish single woman] 14 March 1762
Daniel PAUL [single man of this parish] married Mary DENNIS, [single woman] by banns 17 Dec 1765
[Mark WARNES, single man married Amy DENNIS, single woman, both of this parish, by banns [ [Oct 1766]
[Robert DENNIS, single man of this parish married Elizabeth BREESE, of this parish, by banns] [March 1785] (there was no status given for the bride).
John BEAR of Thurgarton, single man, married Sarah DENNIS of this parish, single woman, by Licence. 12 Oct 1789. Wits. F. PANK, John BURROWS.
Matthew LAWRENCE of Felbrigg, bachelor, married Hannah DENNIS, spinster, of this parish, by banns. 7 Oct 1793. Wit: John LOVE, Mary CUTLER.
That is all of them now.
