RE: The 'TEE' family

My great great grandfather was John Tee Potter of Gaywood and later Snettisham, West Norfolk (1834 - 1906). We  believe the 'Tee' part of his name, my have been his mother maiden name.

So I am now trying to track down anyone in Norfolk with the surname 'Tee' and who can possible date their family back to around 1800 in any part of Norfolk and esspeically in or around King's Lynn. Thanks.

Middlesex by birth,
Norfolk where family roots run deep!

Re: RE: The 'TEE' family

This marriage is noted on the Norfolk Family History cd for Norfolk Marriages 1801 - 1837.  This cd contains all or practically all of the marriages in Norfolk for that period.  Not sure of the cost right now, but everything is very reasonable as they are a charitable trust.  I highly recommend it, and membership in this Society.    It will save you many hours of searching the various parishes, and you can home in on individual  parishes in this way.  The NFHS site is  at nfhs@paston.co.uk  and several of their publications can be purchased.  A society well worth joining as they hold the largest Parish register transcription archive on Norfolk.

On a quick glance through the cd I noted this marriage:

Source:  Norfolk Marriages 1801 - 1837 compiled by the NFHS.   John POTTER married Susan TEE 2. 12. 1829 in Sedgeford .However, there may well be other marriages of a POTTER to a TEE.

This may be a help for the links to your ancestor.  There are many listing of the TEE name in both the brides and the groom sections, but it is against the copyright agreement to give them..

Re: RE: The 'TEE' family

Merry Christmas

Dear Matty,

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the long time in answering your posting. Since September I have made some greats jump forward. Thanks in part to a 5th cousin I found via a Norfolk surnames list a Fr. Brian Tee.

John Tee Potter's father was a Robert Potter and he married one Frances Hart Tee. Robert Potter was the brother of John, who married Susan Tee and a 3rd brother William Potter married the 3rd sister Esther Hart Tee! There father was Richard Tee.

Robert, William and John Potter's father was John Potter born Gaywood Lynn in 1766.

Matty Thanks again for the information.

Matty I wonder if you could help me me with a small matter of a  - Mary Jane Potter. She married twice first time in March 1865 and again in 1894. I know the details of the second marriage. But, I cannot find the first husbands name. CAN YOU HELP?

Details - Mary Jane Potter b. 1838 (Freebridge Lynn) and married March 1865 (Freebridge Lynn).

I have trying all the BMD sites and can find her but, not anything for the husband. Cheers. Also do you know of any sites that are good for Norfolk Bith records???? Thanks.

Andy

Re: RE: The 'TEE' family

Hi Andy,

Just noticed your request.   As you say the marriage for Mary Jane POTTER is for March 1865 in the Freebridge L ( Lynn) district.

I checked out the Free BMD and there is only the one entry for that name, in that district for March of 1865..  I suggest it would be worth your while to get that marriage certificate from the GRO.

Reference other sites:-  The Kings Lynn Forum has some helpful folks on it so do a google for Kings Lynn Forum, an excellent site for help for Lynn.

Also try googling for the Norfolk Transcription Archive.  And see what they have for the name of POTTER.  The same for the Norfolk List run by Rootsweb, loads of folks researching Norfolk and they are most helpful.  Rootsweb has a list for each separate county in England I think.

My own site had loads of stuff on Norfolk but is now under heavy repair after being hacked so it will be a while before it is up and running again.
