Thanks Keith
Good suggestion but our emergency evacuation centre is the local pub, I don't think the cafe will be quite the same after that, do you![Beer [B]](/cs/emoticons/emotion-22.gif)
Got an e mail today saying Norman Lamb has sent letters out on our behalf, we will see what excuses the people in question will be coming out with next.
The coastguard said, high winds and tides at Walcott last Friday but we shouldnt panic, yet when the flood wardens asked for the sirens to be sounded, last November, Silver Control said they didnt sound panicked enough, it makes you cringe doesnt it?

Just a small addition to my last post
shadow
Can you tell us please, what you have done in the last five months to ensure that we can get the sirens sounded in the future?
Can you please tell me exactly what facts I have got wrong, not blatant generalities, please
I might just say, I had a disagreement with a local person yesterday, whom I felt was putting their own interests before the people of Walcott.
Then shadow pops up!!!

Thanks Keith
It is a shame that when you only want to do something positive, there are the knockers who do little but criticize others for actually getting off their backsides and doing something.
Just to say you live in a village for 26 years and you can speak for everyone in that village gives insight into small minded mentality of some people, just because a few people in your locality have that view, does it mean it is the general held view, of course not. What a limited outlook and if it the case, nothing would ever get done.
I am not above constructive criticism and have looked at my back posts in the light of what was written but I have presented what has happened in an honest and as open manner as I can. There is written confirmation of much I have posted, should it be necessary to check.
It has happened in Walcott before, a small minded person has criticized the flood wardens previously and I know they were quite upset. Now it is my turn.
Still there are a few in every village, so it is said.
By the way it is party time soon as we are nearly all home![Party!!! [<:o)]](/cs/emoticons/emotion-19.gif)

Well, no reply from shadow, then
Accuse and run, it seems, when faced with demands for proof
We had a meeting today with a County Councillor who told us about the meeting with the police and why we were not asked or informed about it.
HE deemed a public meeting with lots of accusations was not the way forward so instead he asked one villager and the flood wardens which in fact angered many who would have wanted to be there and denied the chance. He didnt seem to take on board that this was a devisive arrangement which might have had repercussions.
However, he did show up to answer our questions and felt the same way as we did on many issues.
He needed us to know he was on our side but we felt he was jaded and some thought he was half asleep when he was answering our questions. He got very sensitive when it was mentioned by me that the Lib Dems were getting flak due to one of their own councillors behaviour in defending the people who he said were responsible for the cock up. He said if we went on about the Lib Dem connection, he would walk out. A very precious response.
In conclusion, a very half hearted attempt to regain the trust which was lost in the aftermath of the flooding but he did turn up and answer our questions for which, we suppose we were grateful.
Best we could hope for was the general opinion

What strikes me Jill is that your problems have been one big cover up from start to finish.I doubt if any of those sitting in their ivory towers have ever heard of Walcott or even Norfolk for that matter.Keep the pressure on and good luck.Don't drink too much at your party in case you overload the drainage system.john

Well done Jill and the rest of the residents. If the story in the E.D.P.turns out in your favour at least you have proved your point. What I would say though,it is a pity only 10% of those receiving their consultation forms bothered to fill them in.Well done Jill.John

Would you be so good as to tell me what it says
I subscribe to the e edition of the EDP and it only starts on Page 11 today, so I havent been able to read anything about it.
I do not agree that 10% of the forms have been sent in from Walcott although other areas, this may have been the case
We all thought the figures would be creatively assessed to the NNDC advantage.
The Norfolk Emergency Planning report is being held at County Hall at the Fire Protection Review Panel on Tuesday, so we will see if everything is addressed as it should be.
As the Chief Constable is still saying Silver did not stand down, when it is obviously not the case, how can this be taken seriously?
We will see................

Ok thanks I found it through the search facility on this site
Yes, what good news for us
BUT...................................
We already had the sirens last year, ready, working and available
THEY WOULDNT SOUND THEM
That is the next step forward, to get them to use them
We think they wouldnt dare not to.
We are very pleased and thank Norman Lamb, Paul Morse and everyone who fought this battle along with us.

Well the report is now on the web
www.north-norfolk.gov.uk
Flood sirens report
There has been an overwhelming response in favour of the Sirens.
The NNDC has hilighted the fact that there is a disagreement about what the sounding of the Sirens actually means
Is it for evacuation or to get ready to evacuate at a later time.
What they havent done is mention Silver Controls failure to sound the siren when totally necessary or give asssurances that they will be sounded in the future.
They are glossing over this fact and hiding behind it to get themselves off the hook.
Is there no depths to which they will not stoop.

Jill.I would like to wish you and your colleagues all the best wishes when and if you manage to corner Mr.Phil Woolas the Environment minister when he visits you today. After reading the headlines today where the lady at Happisbugh has had her house valued at £1 I should think the minister will get a warm[red hot] welcome.John

Now, although I sympathise with the lady with the £1 house in some respects, in others I do not. If she bought her house in 1987 I reckon she was misguided to do so. I have lived a long time on this coast and even when I bought my house I deliberately chose a location much further away from the "edge" than a few hundred yards. The rate of erosion may have speeded up there ( remember on soft glacial deposits it can be caused by surface/rain water percolating DOWN through the soft cliffs as much as by the sea ) because of the creation of a bay and other local factors. However it has long been known that the coast along here in general is susceptible. It might have been possible to slow down erosion there but even with a solid concrete sea wall similar cliffs become unstable. If you look carefully the properties are 1930s ish built to enjoy the sea in a not very clever place.Even if defences were built to prevent more erosion and the sea breaking through to low lying areas behind Happisburgh it still would not make the cliffs super sensible places to have a house.I would have thought Eccles Church should have been enough warning to anyone.
However, if she didn't rely on her own judgement and was told by a surveyor that she was ok to buy it, then it shows how important it is that there should be a full coastal erosion risk assessment for house buyers in place, constantly updated and made by geologists and coastal experts and not by some one in a district council thinking "well its 400 yards from the sea should be ok for x years"
There's a swathe of houses I wouldn't touch with a barge pole unless I had money to throw away.

And what price did the lady pay at what time ?
I have never understood how permission was given to build those houses where Jill lives. I have seen that land flooded on so many occasions - that ditch was never able to cope. I remember Kevin Green boating over what is now Jill's garden. It all looks so nice in the summer............
Yosemite is overdue !
