I didn't have to do any "research" you ludicrous little twerp. That was merely knowledge.
You're looking more redundant and ridiculous with every sub-Frostian interjection you make. Do yourself a favour and sod off.

It was originally a trainer Dek but ended up as a target tug for the Luftwaffe.
It was purchased from them and the paint was for its private identity which if I remember was warbird four.
Neil Williams had a Mk 9 Spitfire that was warbird 1, Neil's accepted call sign.
The warbird call signs varied between pilots and aircraft. Totally unofficially of course.
Spencer bought a single seat Sea Fury later which was painted bright red and fitted with large tip tanks.
These were to make use of the free fuel at most air shows, when crews were allowed to fill up with before going home.
He had engine failure at Wattisham and crash landed in a potato field.
It was a miracle it did not catch fire but he received serious petrol burns from the huge amount of petrol.
I am glad I was not in the back seat on that one.
Neil Williams did all the flight testing at Elstree on the twin seater Sea Fury.
I saw him perform the prettiest carrier style curved approach and landing on 09, using no more than 50 yards of runway, absolutely brilliant.
Sadly I had breakfast with Neil one weekend and the following day he flew to Spain to collect a Heinkel 111 for a private owner.
Two days later he crashed in Spain in bad weather and died with close members of his family.
We had a lot of ex Spanish aircraft flown in to Elstree, My friend Peter Wood crashed a Jungman in to a grave yard on one trip.
We had a laugh with him at the hospital, as the doctors had a hell of a job fitting metal bits into him as he had already had two other serious crashes and had more metal in him than a scrap yard.
Below is a Jungmeister we had at Elstree. Primary WW2 German trainer.

He was a great guy, and is sadly missed.
I remember when he and a bunch of others flew a flight of Me109s through Guernsey to the UK for the 'Battle of Britain' film.
Many of the people on the island had seen 109's before and there was a decidedly frosty atmosphere ... until somebody taxied a 109 into the tail of another Fokker and chewed a large chunk out of it.![Big Smile [:D]](/cs/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)

Thanks for that Keith. It was very interesting, I always place the Sea Fury as one of my favourte aircraft.(next to the Spitfire ) Pity they came in on the tail end of an era, but even then they proved themselves. Re. that perfect aproach you recall. I remember clearly one that came in to land when we were in the South Atlantic miles from land , when he bounced just before the barriers, opened up his engine just cleared the barriers but left his arrester gear swinging from the barrier.! .......Yes, he did get down eventually. Dek.

What ship were you on Dek?
An old friend of mine was on the Belfast around that time, he mentions sea fury's.
2800 horsepower was a lot to handle, the aircraft could be rolled after take off purely from applying full throttle.
More of a dive and zoom fighter than a dogfighter.
It would fly rings round a Corsair or Hellcat however.
It must have been Hell operating Sea Fury's, Gannets and Sea Hawks which I believe they tried for a while.
Piston, Turbo Prop and Jet all on one ship, Jeees.
Did you experience such a mix?
There was a flight of Sea Fury's at Gibralter until they were replaced with early Hunters.
Looking down at Gib from 20,000 feet is a fantastic experience, on a clear day you can see almost right up the Med.

At that time Keith I was serving aboard HMS Glory for two and a half years `51 to 53`. We were with Belfast for quite some of that time. Our compliment was Sea Furies and Fireflies. American Avengers brought our mail and visiters. We did have one Corsair call in when his own deck was blocked with a crash. He had to leave via our catapault as the deck was prepared for a strike. It was the funniest thing we had experianced. He tried to refuse but there was no other option, he was complaining loudly over his intercom so we could all hear. Then suddenly his voice went op many octaves as they fired him off and he went up nearly vertical sounding like Donald Duck in a temper. And laughter roared from all over the deck ! I`ll bet he still remembers the incident ! Dek.

Some warbird operators are prone to paint their aircraft as it suits them rather than in authentic livery.
A friend was a Sea Fury pilot in Korea. Says he spent the whole time hiding from the Migs against whom they didn't stand an earthly (Unless the Mig driver was dim and tried to dogfight instead of boom and zoom.) All he wanted was an F86 Sabre - but he never got one.
Keith. Can you use your renowned technical expertise to learn about reducing images to a manageable size please?
