I know what follows will sound fussy - but I have searched high and low (on the Internet and in furniture shops) for decent, solid wood, freestanding bookcases but all I can find is either:
What I really like are clean modern lines, white or cream paint finish (not distressed!) with plenty of width, and plenty of shelves to take a range of books. The shelves must be strong enough to carry a full load of books without warping. For size I would like something in the region of 200cm high by 150cm wide and 33cm deep. They must have solid backs - not flimsy panels.
The closest I have found in terms of style are in the latest white company catalogue but they are flat pack and hells expensive considering you still have to build them yourself (nor do I have the time or inclination to assemble 5 units) - plus they are not solid wood (MDF back) and they charge £40 delivery. I have also seen a pleasantly shaped pine bookshelf on Pinesolutions.co.uk (farmhouse 6'6''x4'6'') but I hate the colour of pine. Other painted stuff I have seen is not wide enough or does not have enough shelves (such as the good looking white painted bookcase on Celticpineandoak.co.uk - which only has four shelves - so no good for paperbacks).
Can any one help?
Norwich firm Pine Solutions (www.pinesolutions.co.uk) saves the day and - thanks to some smart customer service from Eleanor - has sourced the white, solid wood book cases that I so desired - see my Adman Blog on EDP24 for more details http://new.edp24.co.uk/content/blogs/Adman.aspx.
Happy days
