Sorry not to answer before but I can only post when at the library.
Well it seems that the luck is with us this time but my heart went out to those suffering in the West and South of the country.
I noticed the rescue services there had little problem in going into the flooding and had the correct gear, unlike our situation and good for them.
I also wondered if the sirens were used but of course they did have huge prior warnings again unlike us.
At Walcott, my husband had a look yesterday and of course the wind is in the right direction for us blowing out to sea, so no problems as yet.
I return on the 20th, to a lovely restored home but of course, sods law, it is then high tide so my heart will be in my mouth for that night.
I did have a reaction to the recent flooding, it brought back those memories of "What if" and of course the trauma will remain for as long as we are unaware what lessons have been learned or if the sirens will be sounded in the future.

Hi just an update
My complaints to the Ombudsman and the Standards Board have been rejected as not serious enough to warrant public money being spent on an investigation of my complaint.
In their view, being called a troublemaker in public along with the threat of being thrown out of a meeting does not warrant it serious enough to besmirch my reputation.
Well, this allows them to proceed just the way they want doesnt it. Although there is sympathy to my treatment, not even a smack on the wrist to prevent them treating others in this high handed way is thought necessary.
I would like to ask the local councellor who chaired the meeting and threatened to throw me out of that meeting if this is what he intended when he first wanted to go in to local politics.
Was it to help his community or was it to be used by the local council to cover the backs of inept employees who made such dangerous decisions which could have caused peoples lives to be lost. Was it also to further his political aims by keeping on the right side of people in high positions that made him turn his back on the vey people he set himself up to help.
Walcott has now become a parish in its own right and is advertising for people to stand as parish councillors. Whilst I would like to stand to help others, I feel that if I did the whole weight of the NNDC would come down on me if I showed them to be as inept as I found them to be last November whilst as a "loose cannon" I could have a far greater freedom to bite at their heels.
Your opinions would be gratefully received.

Don't be put off by this experience Jill.
The coastal community needs people like yourself with commitment and actual personal experience of the issues involved.
And don't worry if they brand you a maverick.
Just remember: one of the biggest political maverick's in public life, is currently leveraging the system for all its worth.
You don't have to like Ken Livingstone, or share his politics, to appreciate what he's capable of.

Jill.There is a old saying " If you can't beat them join them"My advice for what it is worth,is to go for it.I was in your position a few years ago over a different matter of course but I made such a nuisance of myself with our local council and district council they thought they if they co-opted me on to the committees I would keep quiet.How wrong they were.It took me four years to get my points across but I did it.You will never actually beat them but if you can get personal satisfaction by having your voice heard,thats all that matters.John

In the end Jill, you won't make any difference but not trying will leave you with the constant worry about, 'what if?'.
So I suggest you go for it. At the very least if you get elected you will make the entrenched inbreds uncomfortable during the meetings, and that can't be all bad.

Jill, you'll make the decision based on what's right for you: whether, having come this far, you feel the effort and aggravation that's gone with it is worth continuing with, balanced against if you believe you'll achieve an outcome satisfactory to you. Good luck, whatever you decide.

Keep it up Jill, when the major floods come you will be recognized as a Norfolk hero.
I just hope it will not be posthumous.
Those in power will remain there either way of course, unless the public wake up.

Keep at it Jill, the fact that officials start attacking you and calling you a trouble maker means that you are getting to them. These risks are increasing and their lazy attitudes have to be challenged.
What is despicable is that all these emergency srvices who are covering each others backsides are totally unaccountable when something really happens
Again I urge communities to look closely at providing their own help, stock vital sandbags and sand, maybe look into a telephone tree emergency alert system, you cannot rely on those who already dithered in the past. Good luck to all who are facing a wild north sea tonight and tommorrow. nevermind

Many thanks for all your comments and may I thank you all for your support over the past few months.
Well, what a homecoming, we moved back only to have to put all our furniture on blocks and sleep fully clothed on the sofa's, just in case it all happened again.
I was really spooked this time and found it very hard to settle but of course our trusty flood wardens had told us of the situation early in the morning and the times of high tides and assured us that we would be evacuated before any flooding was imminent.
However, it did not come to this but there were reports of damage nearer the sea at the Ostend Village in Walcott be breaking waves over the cliff edge.
I am really thinking of having an away day when the tides are high next time to combat the stress of waiting for the knock on the door again.
Well the builders have done a sterling job, we have all new floors and are decorated throughout, a new bathroom as it took the worst of the seepage and we are hoping for a better time of it until the next high tides, that is.
As for the council, no word of any support from that area and I asked the wardens if Silver Control was active this time and even they had not been informed but silly me, it was Easter, there would not have been anyone there until Tuesday, it is the council after all.
I am back online now, so thanks to the libraries, they do a sterling job with the staff being most helpful and obliging. It was an eye opener just how many people use the computers and great to see people with learning difficulties helped to use them as well.
I am thinking of e mailing that councillor and pointing him to this Forum and the letters on this thread, that should make him think about just what he is achieving by his actions. Disrespect, loss of confidence and acknowledged underhandedness just to name a few.
Walcott is recovering, the cafe and shop are almost repaired, walls are rebuilt and our community spirit is higher than ever. Hardy stuff, these coastal communities.
