Judging?
It was noticeable that the standard was high this year, and good luck to Le Tetsuo who won, but how on earth did the judging work?

Depending on which article you read in the EDP or Evening News there were allegedly wither 115 or 150 entries. Is it just an amazing coincidence that the finalists could all be broadly described as indie-ish guitar bands? Does this mean that all the other entries were too, or were all other genres represented dismissed as not worthy?

Hmmm...

There seems to be a big question raised here, and maybe the EDP should add some transparency to the process by explaining who selected the finalists and what criteria were examined. The list of entrants should also be published in full as it can only add to the credibility of the whole event for us to know who actually entered.

In short:
Who were the 115/150 entrants?
Who whittled them down to the finalists, and how did they come to this decision?
Were the judges really as independent as they should have been?
It's a wibbly wobbly world

Re: Judging?

My point exactly in my previous ranting. The judging system seems very shady to me. It seems ridiculous that Kingsley Harris head of NR ONE stepped off the panel so as not to judge a band he promotes, yet he was on the panel that made that band a finalist in the first place! They should release a 'best of those who didn't make it' CD compilation. I bet it'd be ridiculously diverse and would be far more likely to contain the music of a band who really might be the next big thing.

Re: Judging?
Bit of a late reply here, but it seems to grapes are still pretty sour. Kingsley Harris wasn't on the judging panel that nominated the finalists in the first place, it was a couple of guys at the EDP/Evening News who were responsible for choosing the finalists, it might be worth checking your facts before making presumptious comments about the fairness of the competition.
