Norfolk in WWII / Other
Greetings All
...from Newark A.R.M., Ex - RAOC JLdr Btn (1972) and 15 PARA (TAVR) Btn (1975 + 1976).
Although not Norfolk - born, I was concerned to see that there were no other postings in this Forum. Being a Braveheart, I reckoned that someone should set the ball rolling. Would be cheering to see many more ex- personnel posting here and rallying to the Colours. Remember ! Personal memories are 'living history' and 'Information not shared is lost'!
I am a 47 - year - old Scot living in Leeds and am still, after many years, trying to prove links between my Bethnal Green - Hoxton - Walthamstow- Tottenham - Enfield line of the Newark extended family and the various Newark lines in the Great Yarmouth area.
Also !! North Norfolk military defences and airborne / naval units in 1945 !!!
For historical articles, a booklet and a planned book, I need an 1945 Eastern Command Order of Battle (sic) breakdown...who guarded what / which units were based where ? Who were the senior regional and district commanders ? Ditto for Army, Navy and Air Force Intelligence, for the Police and for the Coastguard ? Where are the Norfolk Police / Special Branch and Coastguard archives for 1945 ?
Special interest focusses upon the military, Police and Coastguard personnel, command and operational structures in the Sandringham, Mundesley, Cromer and Great Yarmouth districts and in the records and ( mostly Home Army ) personnel of the Mundesley and Cromer coastal artillery batteries at Mundesley, Cromer and Sandringham and of the secret 'Oboe' station at RAF Triimingham, near Cromer. I seek anything which sheds light on the history and daily operations of the Mundesley and Cromer artillery batteries and on Mundesley (?)'s police station. Ditto Mundesley's local Royal Engineer Bomb Disposal Unit and coastal / beach defences plus the security of Sandringham Estate and of the 'Oboe' station near Cromer.
Everyday life in Sandringham, Mundesley and Cromer in 1945 is also of interest.
I last year squeezed in a brief day visit to Mundesley and have spoken to a few local worthies but now need much more detailed information. Personal memoirs, photos, maps, journals and other documents and memorabilia are all welcome. I cannot pay for research but guarantee to acknowledge and, where requested, to copy and return any materials sent to me.
Best wishes to all.
