The Blyth-Jex is organising a 30th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday 29th November. School tours from 3.30 to 5.00, Wine and Cheese Reception at 5.30-8.00. Tickets cost £10 each. Money to the Blyth-Jex Business and Enterprise Specialist College Fund. Do contact the school on office@blyth-jex.norfolk.sch.uk to order them. Spread the word. We want to see as many STAFF and STUDENTS as possible.

I was there from 71 (first induction of boys, was that fun :) ) when it was just the Blyth school until 76.
Any news on the new date, i live in California now and a little notice would be good.

Another stoneage Blyth Spirit from 1943 - 1950 here! I still think we got a good education though - better than what is on offer today!

I can agree with most of what you say Stoneage, But I seem to remember that most of my education back then was `hammered` in by the likes of Charley Lynes and Chuck Thrower. Hence even today my maths are not what they should be .

Are you sure you were at the Blyth School in early 40s, Dek? There were no male staff during my time there 1943 - 1950. Miss Ough for chemistry; Ward for Latin; Horan for English etc. The names Lynes and Thrower are strangers to me.

Reading of the low retention rates at Norfolk schools and the low skill levels of school leavers once again prompts me to thank Mrs. Whitaker and staff of the Blyth School of yesteryear!

Seasons Greetings to those who can remember the notice in the entrance hall of the Blyth School which said:- Be a Blyth Spirit and spell it with a Y. Also to staff of EDP. It's great to be able to keep up with East Anglian news 'down under'.

I`ve just caught up with your post Stoneage....I left the Alderman Jex (as it was then) in 1944, Have we got the same school? Harry Ward was the headmaster, Mr Mansfield took music. Mr Thrower, Mr Bullen, Mr Softley and several more men teachers. I beleive the female staff were Olga Knights P.T instructor then Mrs Webb and one more who`s name slips me at the moment. The war was still on so most of the men were serving in the forces. I think you`ve got your schools mixed up. Lets know.

The Blyth School on Constitution Hill was a school for girls only in the 40s, Dek,later becoming co-ed and called the Blyth Jex I believe. You refer to the Alderman Jex which I believe was a totally different school hence our reference to different teachers.

Well, well, Stoneage ! and there was me thinking that you were a Bloke! I am sorry, my mistake. But I do recall those days and the Blyth school. Remember you used to use our gym ! A couple of names I recall M. Chapman and D. Wilde,one or two more but my memory keeps letting me down. Oh and M.Rackham. They happend to live near me . Sorry about the mistake..Merry Christmas, Dek.

I was at Alderman-Jex '56 to '60, left in April while still 14, TRUE!!! I was 15 in the Easter Hols. I remember a couple of names quoted. Mr Bullen was Head then but Mr Mansfield still taught music and I think Mr Green? took PE. I seem to remember the girls fron the Blyth school didn't want too much to do with us commoners even though my name is Blythe.John(the elder) lol, Ian now lives in Stroud Glous.I lived in the North west for almost 30yrs,been back in Norfolk for 10. Still happy memories brought back from reading all your posts. Except the caneing I got from Mr Bullen, ahhh those long gone days of corporal punishment and fags outside the dry cleaners just up on the Mousehold Heath path.

I was in the first intake when Blyth first allowed us chaps into the previously all girls school. My sister was a pupil there also. I left in 1976. We later amalgamated with the Alderman Jex school and I remember we had a lot of trouble / battles with them. the Headmistress at the time was Valerie Glauert and the headmaster of Jex was Mr Killingbeck and his Blakey shoes.:
