Re: R.S.P.B.Broads report.
I have read this whole thread with great interest, and I belive that the broads are to be shared by all, the people that live here, the people that holiday here, the day visitors, and yes even the twitchers. The main concern at this present time is that it ALL available for those people to enjoy, Different parts of the broads hold different pleasures for people, I enjoy the peace & quiet and the unspoilt parts of the broads like Horsey, Hickling & Waxham famous the historic parts of those villages as well as all of the wild life including the Seals & Cranes. Others prefer the  built up areas like  Horning & Wroxham. There is a different part to be enjoyed by people of all tastes but unless the problem of flooding in addressed by the appropriate bodies, without the loss of the villages who's lives are wrapped up in them. We are not all rich second home owners, every penny I have is tied up in my home as I am sure will apply to many others. There will be nothing left for anybody to enjoy.

Re: R.S.P.B.Broads report.

You have got it in one swampie.

Unfortunately there is NO way this will happen until we are rid of the local OBN and proper well thought out development is undertaken in the area, this is the ONLY way to find the money and resources to pay for flood defense.

The economy of the area is still medieval in principle and this will guarantee the death of the Broads unless it is changed.

For hundreds of years investment from outside has been prevented from benefiting the local people of Broadland, it is time they were made aware of this and given the truth about the alternatives and the wealth that they have been prevented in sharing in.

Those responsible know who they are.

Re: R.S.P.B.Broads report.
From the headlines in the E.D.P. it would appear from the answer Mr.Norman Lamb received in the commons yesterday at Prime Ministers question time this government intend to do nothing but just leave it to DEFRA and a load of unelected quango's.and we all know what they want to do.If Norman Lamb holds a meeting at Potter Heigham next week I just hope that local people show him the support he deserves. This would be a ideal moment to get a petition organised so that we,who do not have a Norfolk post code can register our protest.John

Re: R.S.P.B.Broads report.

I have little faith in the people of Norfolk supporting Norman to the level needed john.

The attitude in Norfolk would point to action only being taken when the actual land is flooded under them and they have to swim.

Even then it will mostly be complaints that they need a rowing boat to get to Tesco's.

Don't worry john, one way or another a petition will be sorted, the fishing petition on my earlier post already has over 500 signitures. What we need now is some local support. The Potter Heigham meeting will be a start.

Re: R.S.P.B.Broads report.
Funny you should mention rowing up to Tesco Keith.I remember a few years ago when we got caught in the floods. We were stuck at St.Olaves and did not move for two days.Eventually we did get back to our boatyard at Thorpe. We could not get off of the boat beacause of the floods and because we were running low on food we rowed all the way up Bungalow Lane to Sainsbury's.The flood water was up to the windows of my car which was written off.It was a experience I do not want to repeat.Cows and sheep floating down the river and you just could not tell where the river banks were.If some of the sceptics who post on these threads were in a similar situation they would certainly vote for coastal defences and not sit back and wait for the inevitable flood.John

Pardon? 25 million, surely you meant 25 billion with assurances of another 30 billion.
There are only two sustainable businesses in Britain, the armstrade and banks.
Oh I forgot the uncontrolled illegal drugstrade, getting another boost from Gordon, so eagerly denying scientific adviser, for the third time and carrying on with the prohibition of cannabis, so that will sustain the criminal underclasses somewhat for the next ten years at least. By then so many people will be smoking/growing it, that the prohibition will eventually have gotten rid of prohibition. Lol

Having just read the E.D.P.news,congratulations are in order for Lady Knollys whose appointment as High Sherriff now puts her in touch with all of the high judges and will deal with the administration of justice in Norfolk.Lady Knollys is a member of the Broads Authority and I respectfully ask her for some justice as far as the Broads Bill and Coastal Defences are concerned bearing in mind the three main objects of the Broads Authority.John

With or without the B.A. Nevermind I just hope that Norfolk Council and the Norfolk M.P.s together with a good local support can persuade this government that £1m-£2m is a price worth paying.Peoples lives, property and future are in their hands.John

Saving our coastline or going to war is the chopice for the Government. At a time when petreaus in Iraq is pointing fingers at Iran and is spoiling for another attack on an innocent UN member, there is hardly any money left for causes as important as this.
I expect local MP's and politicians all to be in favor, they want our votes, but when it comes to action, I think we will have to help ourselves from now on. nevermind
