No clue who Abednego was. I left NHS in 1991 so I guess I was a bit ahead of you. If you remember a very tall girl with blondy/gingery hair, that was me! Good for you for booking a ride - boy, are you going to hurt after 11 years....... I've just ridden my mare tonight for 20 mins for the first time in 3 or 4 weeks as she's been badly lame. I'm not entirely sure who will be the stiffest tomorrow, me or the horse. I remember I had some pictures taken of Jasper and had one blown up to poster size! He was such a nice-natured horse, as you say it was like riding an armchair. I remember going on 2hr hacks on him and doing the odd holiday course. He definitely took over from Wimpy as my utter favourite. Are you writing a general memories book or a novel? How come you have ended up in Berlin? I'm sure you get some beautiful German horses to ride out there. If you were a member of the South Norfolk Pony Club, do you remember Helen Cortis? She had a little grey called Honey and then moved on to a sprightly bay called Model (who was also a livery at Cringleford for a bit before Helen bought her, was she owned by Louise? I can't remember) Helen is also an old NHS girl of my year, but she left in 1989.

I didn't know many girls in the year above me, so probably am not much use! I didn't Pony Club either, though I wish I had, and it's something I'm going to explore in the book (which is partly a memoir but also about ponies and childhood in the UK in general).
Did you survive the ride? I think I'm going to follow my ride with lying in a bath all day, oh and to prepare for it by doing lots of yoga :) It's going to be very odd – that combined with my poor German. Will I have to speak German to the horse oor will tone of voice be enough? :)
I live in Berlin because I like it, essentially. I've heard of a local riding club that organises eating/riding tours and has a string of Arab and Barb horses, so there's something to save my pennies for.

Your book sounds like it will be really interesting reading and a great project! I'm very jealous, I've always wanted to write a book but I don't think I have the time/patience for it. My horse is still sound but I've only just come back from my holidays today so we will start work with avengeance tomorrow. That's if the weather holds out. So how did your ride go? I think that horses go on the tone of voice not actually what you say. I've tried saying "sprout" and stuff instead of "trot" whilst lunging and as long as you say it in the right tone, it doesn't make a blind bit of difference. Horse is an international language! I hope you managed to have some Radox left....Definitely have a go at the riding club, you'll get some fabulous neddies to ride then! Hope you are keeping well and you've found your passion for riding all over again!

I had a great ride, but boy was the mare lazy, and buy did my legs hurt! I also discovered that she responded to any command from the instructor to slow down much faster than I did. He'd just say, "And walk" and she'd slam on the brakes. She just made me laugh a lot - a real character. I think she knew the word for canter too, but preferred to ignore it.

Sounds great! Will you go again? She sounds like the German version of my mare. Very selective at what commands she will actually obey. Mind you, I can't say much, she's been a very good girl recently and my friend's horse has been nuts! I'm not really getting much opportunity to ride, though, as the weather is atrocious. The fields have flooded today so we've had to shift the horses into slightly less soggy fields. Well, what do you expect, it is summer!! Do you have such glorious summer weather in Germany? How is the book coming along?
