Several posters have responded on this thread and I am merely one of them
No one knows what lies in store for them on jury service until they attend on the day and I am sure that the judge in charge will not be a philistine but an upholder of the law of this land.
But judges do have a risque reputation for some activities.............................

So you’ve had a jury summons Jill.
First of all let’s dispose of the old adage that “one wouldn’t want to be tried by anyone who hasn’t the initiative to get off jury service”. I had and did, but it doesn’t always work.
Otherwise, my sympathies. Expect to be mucked about by court officials, patronised by barristers and browbeaten by judges (although they’ve all learned to be a bit more deferential of late – particularly if there are ‘ethnic minorities’ among the candidates).

Quite. Apposite to this topic there’s the recent news item about security at airports where UK applicants for ‘airside’ jobs are subjected to rigorous security checks but foreigners (make of that what you will) are exempted because it’s not feasible to check them for offences etc. committed outside of the UK.
The correct, safe and secure solution would be not to employ them at all – but I guess that would be deemed ‘racist’.

I have been selected for jury service, once before many years ago
I was quite cross as I had turned up for many days before actually tasking the oath only to be rejected by the defence as they preferred a male dominated jury because the defendant had held his wife prisoner with a loaded shotgun and they thought women would be on her side.
But I do agree with all the protocol that has to be gone through is a huge bind.
Working for the probation service has also given me an insight into the court system as well as I was a witness on a couple of occasions.

I hope that those employing unchecked people and the officials responsible for allowing this practice are in law held fully responsible for any subsequent criminal behavior and the cost resulting from it.
The issue should make a very interesting investigation for the media, after all we are seeing the legislation on gang masters beginning to show fruit at last, be it ever so tiny a result.

Please tell me I am wrong, someone who knows, should you not refrain from telling us that you are being called up for jury service, Jill?, I thought that was an activity not to be announce to everyone and sundry on here, are you trying to come off it?
Maybe the EDP will ask you question for you, ie. ' Jill Dewsbury, now on jury service, would like to know whether to convict waster or those actually committing a crime?'
Well, you will have no choice in it whatsoever Jill, part and parcel of this wretched and antiquarian judiciary system, you are merely a cog that has to agree with a judge's directions, thats all there is to justice these days.
Oh that and politically expedient policing, the two go hand in hand together, like an old married couple.
I will never do jury service, my reasons for this I will keep private, but then, I don't think that anybody would want to ever call me up either. nevermind

I see the irony of my reply is lost on you again
No one knows when I will be called for jury service and it does not say anything in the booklet about not mentioning it.
It is not that important, but I will do my best to be fair and honest whatever may happen.
However, I agree with you that perhaps you may not be quite the type of person one would want on a jury as a modicum of understanding would be advantageous.

Perhaps immigrants don't have to be checked, they do seem to be the 'chosen people' for the politicos and bleeding hearts.
