Small Schools Under Threat
I see that because pupil numbers are dropping in some areas of Norfolk our much valued small schools are under threat. Rather than attributing this to a falling birth rate NCC should be examining whether its continued failure to restrict second homes is driving our young families out of the rural villages because they cannot find a home. Not only second homers but the recent boom in demand from relocators in middle age and the trend for buying small properties and extending them means that homes that once housed young or growing families now may have one or two adults only in residence. So the creeping destruction of our countryside continues-once small village schools close a village becomes less attractive to families with children and knocks the guts out the place.
