01/05/2008, 10:29 AM jenny Joined on 27/02/2008 norfolk Posts 234 home education hi im looking to talk to parents in the norfolk area about home schooling, this is something im strongly looking at for my child, if you are a parent doing home tutoring i would love to hear from you, i have no idea where to start, how i can educate her at home but know for her this is the best way to go, prehaps you are in a club which meets up and sorts parents concerns with home tutoring, that wouldbe great thanks for your time jenny    Report

There are numerous resources for the former, including specialist forums, which may be more appropriate than this one, and I will post them for you if you wish. If you mean the latter, then there are all sorts of complications (including quite specific legal ones) and you will need  a different sort of help.    Report

I believe there is a Yahoo work group (sort of forum) associated with this lot. Then there is the Home Education advisory Service or www.heas.org.uk You can access a great deal more just by googliong 'Home Education' , but make sure you select a UK setting. No -  I am not an educator. At least not in any ordinary sense. I can't readily describe what I do, however, if I occasionally knew what I was doing, it would help? Take care. Some of these people have agendas. For what it's worth, I think the only valid agenda is one where the child comes top of it.    Report

Good luck with your research, Jitters.  Scary is absolutely correct.  Having spoken with a recently retired Offsted inspector, I was horrified by the methods of scoring schools, overlooking problems for an easy life, and the obviously staged parade of kids as organised by the staff and headteacher.  Glass    Report

01/05/2008, 4:16 PM jenny Joined on 27/02/2008 norfolk Posts 234 Re: home education thankyou both for your comments, both of you have very valid replies, i have lost my faith tottally in the current education system, my child is a number as far as they are concerned, she is worth more and deserves the best, going to secondary school is not the only option and will be looking into everything before making my descision, she is a very bright outgiong and enthusatic person, who deserves to be treated as such, home tutoring will enable her to have her say in which she wants to be taught, with a little input from me.! jenny    Report

It is not a criticism of you as we all have areas that are very weak. Teachers specialise in subjects which they teach and can put this across and are trained in to do this. You are surely not suggesting that all pupils are failed by the system as this is not the case and quite frankly insulting to the dedication of some teachers and makes a mockery of exam results. We all want the best for our children, but could you ensure that your child would not just live up to your expectations when she might do even better for someone whos' expectations and expertise might stretch and inspire her even further. That is my point. Wouldnt it be better to let her go to school and get extra help for the subjects she found challenging. Your input at home would still be paramount. Just another way of looking at things. This is a forum and threads are there to be debated.    Report
