Pearson Watson Smith
I'm seeking anyone who knew/served with my father, Pearson Watson Smith, during WW2. He enlisted on 21.11.40 and was demobbed on 15.7.46, having reached the dizzy heights of LAC and serving in 10 Signals Recruitment Centre (Blackpool, Feb 41), 3 School of Signals (Jun 41), 51 OTU (RAF Cranfield, Bedfordshire, Aug 41), 55 OTU (RAF Usworth, Co Durham, Oct 41 and Mar 42), 16 RC (May 42), 56 OTU (RAF Brunton, Northumberland, Jan 45) and 95 Maintenance Unit (RAF Lord's Bridge, an Ammunition Park near Cambridge, Sep 45). He also spent some time in hospital at RAF Kirkham (Jul - Aug 43) and did several 'Alt Backers Up' courses, though I don't know what these are and would appreciate any further information.

Pearson was born on 2nd September 1920 in Consett, Co Durham, and died in October 1992 in North Shields. I never met him and any information from relatives or anyone who knew him would be gratefully received. I also found out from his wartime RAF records that he listed his father as a Mr Ridlow living in Sunniside, Co Durham (now part of Tyne & Wear). If anyone new Mr Ridlow or his family in the 1930s/40s please let me know. Many thanks.

Re: Pearson Watson Smith
Hi Stephen,

I have just recently received my Dad's Service Record and it shows him to have been at 95 MU from 24 July 1945 until he was finally Demobbed in the November.

He had been sent home from Malta in May 1944 and had a year based at 86 MU (Wherever that is, I haven't yet located it).  Then after he had spent a month at Farnborough Hospital in 1945 and a month at 24 MU he was posted to Lords Hill.

His name was 963181 LAC Jim Weatherall, and he was trained as an Engine Fitter.

I would appreciate finding anyone who knew him in those days too.

Jim
