A year or two ago, I spoke to a low energy light manufacturers technician,
regarding the efficiency of the new style light fittings. Knowing that the new style
lights work on the same principle as a fluorescent tube and take more energy to
start, than to leave turned on for some time, I was interested to know just how efficient
they are.
His answer to the question, how long, must a new style light be on, to
save any energy? was about 30 minutes.
Knowing this, what is the point of putting these particular fittings in a place
that may only be turned on for a short period of time, i.e. a toilet, like the
Government and other bodies are advocating. I consider this contradictory to the
point of trying to reduce our carbon footprint. If anyone else has thoughts on this
subject, one way or the other please let me know.
