Re: The Dangers Of Using A ouija Board

Hi

I never said the devil would come through. Please read my words. I said that christianity views the contact of spirits via ouiji board and other means as devil worship. Thats why so many mediums in the past have been pursecuted. I was trying to illustrate to the previous person that the ouiji and other forms of spirit contact have nothing to do with religion and god, as they oppose such things; hence the use of a cross on the board would not be of much use.

Yes and you are correct, the circle i sit in still advise against the use of the ouiji.

I think the Ouija board debate has covered just about every angle, so I'm not entering into that specifically, but as a Spiritualist I would have to take issue with a statement that 'other forms of Spirit contact have nothing to do with religion and god'... unless this is turning into a typewritten version of Chinese Whispers and I too have misunderstood your meaning!

Re: The Dangers Of Using A ouija Board

Hi pat

Ok this is probably where im gonna get slapped lol.

I personally take the view that spirit contact is nothing to do with religion and god as most of the work done by mediums and spiritual people goes against what organised religion believes in and in many cases is condemed in their teachings and in the bible.

Unless of course you talk about the holy spirit and angels.

Of course the various religions have differing views on this. Correct me if im wrong but the catholics have a very strong stance against what we do with the teachings of buddha being the most forgiving.

But this is only my view and i always openly encourage other opinions and dont condemn anyone in their beliefs.

Dave

Re: The Dangers Of Using A ouija Board

Hi Dave

No slapping from me I promise - although I can't promise anything on behalf of the more militant spiritualists!! LOL

I suppose it depends on your definition of  'organised religion.'  Spiritualism is recognised as a religion in the UK, although I accept that many people who make contact with Spirit do not consider themselves to be a Spiritualist.  Our 'Spirit Nights' are in no way 'religious' and everyone is welcome - whatever their beliefs.

I'm pulling this from the depths of my memory somewhere, but I believe that the Catholic faith used to include communication with the departed as part of their ethos - probably best not to quote me on that as I confess I can't refer to 'proof' of that at the moment.

I think the term 'Spiritualist Medium' is trotted out in the media a lot now, and I doubt whether a lot of the so-called Spiritualist Mediums are actually Spiritualist insofar as the religion itself goes.  If they are, then they don't always portray themselves as having an understanding of the religion itself at all, but that's TV for you I suppose!  The SNU (Spiritualist National Union) has a set of 7 principles which define their religion, although not all Spiritualists and Spiritualist churches are part of the SNU, or adhere to that set of principles.  Then of course you have the non SNU Churches who do follow those principles!   Most people who consider themselves Spiritualists believe in a 'source' - some call it God, some are not comfortable with the word, and prefer to refer to the Divine Source, Divine Spirit.... and other similar terms.

Add 'Christian Spiritualists' into the mix who believe in communication with the dead, and also believe that Jesus is their Redeemer and it gets even more complicated!  Having said all that of course, it really can be kept very simple, and that is that if you believe in being able to communicate with the Spirit World, and approach that with the right intentions, then it matters not a jot what you call yourself!  There are enough wars and problems caused by differing religious beliefs already, so we will have to agree to disagree on this one. (My apologies if you already know all this by the way.)

When it comes to Spirit Contact being condemned in the Bible ...(this is where I'll probably get the slapping!) my personal belief is that if you search with the intention you can find things to support/condemn most things somewhere within the Bible, so I am pretty ambivalent about that.  I am in no way denigrating those who believe in and find comfort from the words of the Bible, this is just my personal opinion, and as someone who believes in 'talking with dead people' I have got used to my personal opinion not always sitting easily with others.

Back to the original query about using a cross as protection on the Ouija Board, I tend to agree with you, that the cross would only potentially have an effect if the spirit making contact had any feelings or beliefs associated with the symbol of the cross.  The cross has negative connotations in some beliefs and religions.  I do think that on a psychological level, it may help the person using the Ouija Board to feel safer, if they  have a positive association with the symbol of the cross, and as has already been discussed, the psychology of the people using the Ouija board has an effect on the 'results,' and how they view and react to their 'results.'

Kind Regards,

Pat

Re: The Dangers Of Using A ouija Board

Hi thanks for that Pat

I dont think i could have put it better.

Yes i agree the bible is very much open to a wide interpretation, with many using it to condemn our practices in the past.

I think the subject of religion can open many debates which ultimately cannot be answered.

At least in these days we have the freedom to pick and choose what we want to believe in.

Wish you well.

Dave

Embarrassed [:$] Re: The Dangers Of Using A ouija Board

hi foreverautumn, i was not getting at you lol.

its just that i    K N O W   the ouiji board is not dangorous.

what ever anyone told you about it being , is not true.

ok now about catholics,

r u a catholic?

how do you know this?

i am a catholic and i have never ever heard this.

im not religous at all, but i did used to go church and saturday school to learn about god as a child, not for long, but i went to learn things.

i do however remembering that not even once did we ever learn that contacting spirits was wrong.

we were told if we pray hard enough to our loved ones they will answer. this is a form of contact. isnt it?

i notice at least one person will always bring up another religion when talking about spirits, i personally see what i believe in as a belief, not a religion.

religion in my eyes is where we pray to get answers but spiritulisum is where we try to prove that there is life after death.

now i do know that in a few religions they do believe in life after death. being, catholic, muslim, church of england and more.

back to the ouiji board, more and more people and spiritual groups are usuing them more to gain more imformation  for better proof, or just to be able to say more things and to give the spirits more of a chance to say things. if the group you are in decided to start usuing them, would you join in?

im sorry that i understood yr post wrong.  please forgive me..

xxxx

Re: The Dangers Of Using A ouija Board

Hi angel

Its good to hear that some churches actually encourage spirit contact now, although do you think thats a sign of the times as more and more lose their congregations. My information was based on past history, my childhood experience of church( i was a christian and studied the bible) and the fact that a few people who ive met who are of various denominations, including catholics, said that their vicar told them it was devil worship and that they should only speak to god. Saying that, i did actually meet a nice lady two nights ago, at another circle i attend, who is a christian, who believes spirit contact is godly. So im pleased opinions are changing.

As for me using the ouiji board, whether my group used them or not, i would not use one. The reasons being that i dont need to as i get enough proof and communication via other means and the health problems that you explain you have had; plus others ive met have had similar health problems. This is my choice basically.

Thats ok i should explain myself better, hope ive done that here lol

Re: The Dangers Of Using A ouija Board

I totally believe in Ouija boards. Simply because my mum and her friend started doing them when my mums friend had a still birth and was desperate to get some kind of confirmation that there is life after death. One of the things she told me was absolutely amazing. One night her and her friend as usual were doing the Ouija board when a young man came through and told them his name and his age and that he had died in a car accident. He gave them his mothers phone number and asked them to call her and tell her he was ok. My mum was terrified but they agreed to do it. The next day they were going to call but didnt as my mum and her friend didn't think the young mans family would believe them and that they were making it up. That night he came through again and asked them to call his mother, again they agreed. The next day they went to the phone box and actually called the number, a woman picked up and my mum began to explain the whole story to her, the woman began sobbing and it turned out that everything the man had told them was true. They didnt just have good experiences though, One night the glass shot off the table and hit a wall and smashed. After that strange things happened in my mums friends house and she was too scared to stay there, she painted crosses on all the walls and got a priest to go see the house and pray. After that the strange things did stop and they never did it again.

I actually came across this site because last night i was lied in bed and I felt like i was being watched i turned and saw a dark shadow like figure stood at the end of my bed. I was quite scared and called my boyfriend from downstairs. Im not sure if i was imagining what I saw or whether it was really there. I just wondered if other people here have experienced the same thing? We havent been messing around with Ouija boards or doing any seances or anything. It just seemed strange that I havent experienced it before and I have lived in the house for ten years.

Huh? [:^)] Re: The Dangers Of Using A ouija Board

I haven't used one myself for a few years due to a bad experience, but one of my brothers once told me something about them.

Apparently, if you ask the spirit if they are evil and they say yes, you're meant to break the glass you're using.

Can anyone else either confurm or deny that

Re: The Dangers Of Using A ouija Board

Hello dark playgirl

So youve made it our neck of the woods. I dont know, but this is possibly the most active forum of the EDP forums. Maybe one of our wonderful Mods will say weather this is true or not.

Anyway welcome to the SN forum. I hope that you enjoy your stay.

As to the smashing of the glass. I have never heard of this saying & I have been into Ghosthunting & the paranormal for too many years to remember when I first got interested in it. As I said I have never heard of the smahing of a glass if an evil spirit comes in

One thing that I have heard of, is spirits playing games with a person using an Ouija board.

If you ask a spirit if they are evil, they might just say yes for the fun of it. Even if they are not

A spirit was once a person. If that person was a joker in life, its a good possibility he or she will be a joker in death.

I guess in such a situation, its not worth while stoping around & finding out. Giggle Spirit joke, or spirit realy evil

Maybe someone else on the forum have heard of the smashing of a glass, if an evil spirit comes though.

Best wishes

Eddie

Re: The Dangers Of Using A ouija Board

Hi

You are correct about this eddie.

I think this is a reference to myth and legend, probably brought about by the victorians and empathised by hollywood.

The Ouija is a tool and it is the persons intent that actually makes the link to spirit. Spirit will use your energy to move the glass, so breaking the glass will have no effect (other than making a mess lol).

Also the glass was not introduced until later on and the first Ouija items used were not actually boards but metal bowls inscribed with letters and other symbols around the edge and a pendulam dangled in the bowl used as a pointer. These were used by ancient egyptians in a ritual environment.
