Smile [:)] Norwich lads club

Hi again all, i am trying to locate any information regards the boxers at the lads club in the late 1920s to late 30s, my father was one of these and from what an uncle told me he was one of a well known trio, i hope im not stepping on anyones toes if i mention names, my father was Bob Gray then Ginger Sadd and Chucky Robinson, im sure there must have been more. From what ive been told these three were a force to be reckoned with in and out of the ring, and won quite a few honours for the club. I did hear a rumour that my father lost all his honours for bare fist boxing on the fairsgrounds for money.

If anyone has any knowledge of these three or  any photos or write ups ( if miracles do happen) i would be most grateful.

many thanks tony

Re: Norwich lads club
Tony, a few years ago there were two books on the Norwich Lads Club .  Seventy Years Young  and Fifty Years of Boxing.  both had plenty of photos and stories.  So maybe if you could find these you may be able to find out more about the club and the old members .    Dek. One was byRobert Walker (the frirst) and the other was by Dick Sadd.

There are 2 copies of "fifty years of boxing " in the local studies at the Millennium library, here in Norwich, that is if you are a local person.

Gift [G] Re: Norwich lads club

A big thankyou to fred and dek for the information you gave, i managed to get a a copy of 70 years young and happened to note the printer was a local rackheath firm who i duly rang, the gent i spoke to was a mine of knowledge and couldnt have been happier to help. Sadly though he had relocated from rackheath to bloefield i think? a few years previous and remembered clearing masses of overun stocks of books, however he took my name and address just in case.

While i was in norwich last week i visited the library as you suggested and viewed the book in the heritage section, and found a photo of my dad un-named but since verified, on leaving the library i phoned my wife to find she had just taken delivery of the same book sent through annonamously, and had also spotted the photo. You can imagine my delight ive searched so long for any information and to receive this book just before christmas what a surprise. I can only surmise at this stage it was our friendly printer appologies for not having your name if you read this for sending or arranging the sending of this book, and i will in due course ring and thank personally.

We all at times ,well i have felt that we as a people have lost the spirit this nation was always so proud off , i know the words above may seem out of proportion i mean no offence to anyone, but for perfect strangers to assist someone in such a minor request, and to go out of their way to help and at their expense, gives me hope for my children. I stumbled upon this forum by pure chance, but what a brilliant place it is and all involved, long may it continue. Many thanks again have a happy christmas all.

          all the best tony
