Up On The Roof

I was not aware of it happening, it was sometime after I retired.  I woke up one morning and realised I had turned into Victor Meldrew.   The first sign that I noticed  it had happened was when I became aware and really irritated by the number of learner drivers that made three point turns in our road.   I would estimate we get about two or three  hundred learner cars a day.  I thought I might carry out my own traffic census on learner cars from my front garden.  Then I quickly forgot the idea when I realised what a sad old git I could become if I wasn’t careful.

I carried out the daily inspection of the aviary this morning.  Every step I expected  to hear a jingle and then Ernie, the red flash, would appear.  But no sign of him.  It’s three days since I have seen him and I wonder what has happened to him.

After the recent heavy rain I noticed there was a serious leak in the Parakeet shed.  It’s a good forecast for the next few days so it might be a good time to refelt the roof.   The thought of using lots of black sticky bitumen with Ernie on the roof trying to help me fills me with dread.  Again I wonder what has happened to him, I don't know the people who own him, they moved in just round the corner a short time ago.  It would hardly be right to knock on their door and ask what they have done with their cat - would it?

I had to smile at your comments on learner drivers using your road for three point turns. My Mother-in-law has the same complaint, even though her street is very wide, very quiet and you can't hear a thing once inside the house, it still bothers her. I think it's something to do with spending a lot of time at home looking out of windows. I have even started to get wound up about things happening on my street which I wouldn't even have noticed if I was at work; like the neighbour who has started parking his works van out on the street where it blocks the traffic flow and our view, even though he has a double driveway which he leaves completely empty!!! Why, why, WHY?!! This then makes me sensitive to anyone else who parks on the street and then I start ranting about wasted driveway space and inconsiderate people, blah, blah, blah, and I'm off in my own little world! It's very stressful, not good for me at all, and I have to stop now before I get wound up again. My advice, stop looking out your windows and it'll stop bothering you.
