Like a duck to water

I have chosen this name because my favourite hockey team is called the Mighty Ducks and the youth group I go to came up with this name.
I have been to the gym five times this week and I am very tired. I have managed to build up to swimming sixteen lengths without stopping (400m).
I have enjoyed my sessions with Craig but he really needs to speed up, when we were boxing I was so fast I nearly knocked him out! On the rowing machine I had a time of 2 mins 56 secs to beat and I have!
The good news is I had a weigh’ in this morning and . . . I’VE LOST TWO POUNDS. I have a bet with Craig and Damien that I will go six months without chocolates, crisps, ice cream and fizzy drinks.
I am eating lots of fruit, apples, kiwi and lots of veg. I feel a lot better and still really keen.

Good luck to you Andrew - I admire your determination. Here's a gentle piece of advice - don't punish yourself. By that I mean don't think in terms of denying yourself certain things - and don't think about losing weight.

Think instead about the benefits - the freedom you will gain . Think of yourself becoming fitter and healthier - imagine how good that will make you feel. Value yourself - you are not a bad person - keep telling yourself that you are worth looking after.

Also, don't look on fruit and vegetables as boring - instead look on them as treats - something to relish

For instance, to appreciate an apple, polish it up on your sleeve so it shines - look at the colours and smell the fresh apple aroma that comes from the freshly polished skin - think of the orchard, the sunshine and clean air that has gone into creating the apple and then enjoy.

The same with other fruit - although most don't need polishing - but smelling them and actually thinking about them helps you appreciate them more.

The same goes for exercise - it should not be a punishment - instead enjoy setting yourself goals - and take every opportunity to exercise (it's not just something for the gym - simply walking briskly everywhere or running up stairs will help get your heart pumping).

Kind regards
H

As a person who has struggled and still does with their weight I wanted to wish you all the luck in the world, but as Huw said dont make it a punishment or you will lose sight of why you are trying in the first place. Kaz

Hey your a brave kid to write this blog, you are already beating back the bullies with this mission that your on!

I lost 8 stone in 2006 went from 21stone to 14stone in 5 months.

Stay focused, keep your eyes on the prize!

But be careful too many visits to the gym will slow down your weight loss, drink around 3 ltrs of water per day to combat water retention, this will also speed up your losses.

Remember diets don't fail people, people fail diets!!

Keep going and stay focused, I wish you well.
