The art of recycling

Norfolk artist Karen Whiterod is known for her work with recycled materials.

The latest pieces she has made have been created from empty sparkling water bottles.

Art"I started using recycled materials in my own work and in workshops about five years ago," she explained.

"The first thing I made was a dress from old bottles and plastic bags."

Karen, 43, began her career as an artist using nylon but decided she wanted to work in a more environmentally friendly way.

"I can see a lot of beauty in recycled plastics," she added.

"I also like the fact that they have had a previous life - and that can influence the shapes I make."

Karen runs workshops and school events where she encourages participants to use recycled materials in their work as well.

"I think people do find it exciting and interesting," she said.

"Working with waste materials gives them a certain freedom."
