Little Melton: The Village Inns
This pub does exactly what it says on the tin - an inn in a popular village just a few miles out of Norwich. A former Brewers Fayre place, it has just had a fairly extensive facelift and now boasts a large dining area and a very pleasant relaxing bar area - all leather sofas around a large fireplace.

| PUB OF THE WEEK |
The Belle Vue, St Philip's Road, Norwich
Mostly it is like a student hang-out, lively and with young people propping up the bar, but there is a tucked-away corner perfect for old folks. |
The Garden House, Pembroke Street, Norwich
As the name suggests, the special thing about this Golden Triangle pub is its beer garden - perfect for those warm sunny evenings that finally seem to be on the way. |
St John's Head, North Quay, Yarmouth
Those who think that Yarmouth is all about lager and fizzy pop to wash down the sticks of rock will certainly realise their mistake if they go to the St John's Head. |
Mariners Tavern, Howard Street South, Yarmouth
The Phoenix Award goes to the Mariners, which has been a pretty dodgy pub in the past but is now a pleasure to visit. |
The York Tavern, Leicester Street, Norwich
The York is a lovely gem of a boozer, open since the late 19th century and with nice Victorian fittings like the drinks display (the labels Brandies, Whiskies and Wines painted along the top hinting at a more innocent age before sambuca, tequila, Aftershock and the like). |
The Cider Shed, Lawson Road, Norwich
Sister pub to the Fat Cat, the Cider Shed is the home of the Fat Cat brewery. So if you want to reduce your food miles while consuming their marmalade beer, honey ale and the like, this is the place to do it. |

The Playhouse Bar, St George's Street, Norwich
Not just a place to have a drink in the interval, the Playhouse Bar is a destination in its own right.
It is a casual, cool-in-a-scruffy-kind-of-way place, where the drinks list is handwritten on the blackboard behind the bar and there is regularly changing contemporary art on the walls. |
The Lighthouse Inn, Coast Road, Walcott
In the way that some publicans manage to do, Steve Bullimore has become something of a local celebrity. It won't be long before Steve celebrates his 20th anniversary at the Lighthouse Inn - and his attitude has always appeared to be one where the 'long game' is important. |

The Fat Cat, West End Street, Norwich
It is much written about, but it wouldn't be fair to run a pub of the week feature for long without mentioning the Fat Cat. It is the Good Pub Guide's beer pub of the year for 2008, and has twice been Camra's national pub of the year. |
